HS DAILY - 10.7.16: Eastmont wins at Moses Lake, Riverside surprises Medical Lake Thursday

In the MCC Thursday, the top four sides blanked the bottom four sides in the table on the night with Summer Yates, fresh back from her US U16 trip, tallying an amazing five goals and two assists in a dominant Chiawana victory. The only close contest of the night in the MCC and CBBN that saw both teams score was a second-place showdown between Eastmont and host Moses Lake where the back-and-forth contest finished with the Wildcats grabbing a 3-2 road win to move into a tie for second.

In the greater Spokane area, things went as expected in the GNL, but the NEA had an exciting night of contests. Fresh off moving into first, Medical Lake was stunned on the road at Riverside, falling 3-2 in a shootout. Lakeside, meanwhile, needed overtime to prevail 3-2 and Colville nabbed a 3-2 road win over winless Newport, needing a last-minute goal for the result.

Here's a look around the action from Thursday...

MCC #####

Pasco 0-3 Hanford: Taylor Matheny put the Falcons in front in the first half and doubled the lead in the second half with her second of the game. Dani Mendoza capped the scoring. Kelsee Winston recorded the shutout.

Walla Walla 0-7 Chiawana:  Summer Yates scored twice Tuesday in her return from playing abroad with the U16 Girls National. It proved to be just a tune-up as she helped the Riverhawks score seven against the Blue Devils. She scored four minutes in and then set up two others before reeling off four more to give Chiawana seven by the 51st minute. Alisha Ramos recorded the shutout.

Kamiakin 3-0 Kennewick:  Kaeri Ward scored back-to-back goals two minutes apart for a two goal lead after 10 minutes. Alexa Hazel scored the lone goal of the second half with Grace Wilbur and Alyssa Humphrey combining for the clean sheet.

Richland 0-2 Southridge:  Kendall Pope fed McKaley Goffard four minutes into the contest and went on to tally the insurance goal with 10 minutes left to maintain the Suns two-game lead in the MCC table. Tiara Valadez posted the shutout.

CBBN #####

Eisenhower 0-9 Davis:  The Pirates scored twice in the opening seven minutes and had four by the 21st - two by Tati Aills, who went on to add a pair of assists in the second half. Aills netted the opener in the fifth with Alyza Palma scoring two minutes later. Palma went on to score two more and tally an assist in the second half. Kelly Martin pushed the lead to three in the 15th and set up Aills in the 21st, adding another goal in the second half as well. Also scoring in the blowout were Fiona Naughton and McKenna Kappenman. Eliza Berman posted the shutout.

Wenatchee 0-4 West Valley:  The Rams grabbed a two goal lead in the first 10 minutes with Kendra Hanses scoring seven minutes in and Lilly Fetzer striking three minutes later. Ariza Juarez pushed the lead to three four minutes before intermission with Lexi Maison scoring the lone goal of the second half. Jada Stevenson registered the clean sheet.

Eastmont 3-2 Moses Lake:  Eastmont equalized twice in the contest against the Chiefs and grabbed the victory late in the contest with a free kick to post the victory. The Wildcats were led by two goals from Lizzy Rodriguez with Kara Pinard providing the other.

GNL #####

East Valley 4-0 West Valley:  The Knights scored four quickly and cruised to the victory. Kelsy Ross scored for the second consecutive game, giving the visitors the lead 10 minutes in. Elle Burland doubled the lead a minute later. Chloe Gellhaus scored her fifth of the league campaign in the 17th with Kaitlin Harvey finishing things off in the 23rd. Kari Bromley posted the shutout.

Pullman 1-3 Clarkston:  The Greyhounded netted just their third goal of the season when Alyssa Friel scored 17 minutes in courtesy of Abby Tingstad. They nearly took the lead to the break, but Makinzie Packwood tied things up with four minutes to go on a ball from Taylen Wohl. Two minutes after the break the two repeated the combination to give the Bantams the lead and Packwood scored on a solo effort with 10 minutes left to complete the hat-trick and move her league tally to seven.

NEA #####

Medical Lake 2-3 SO Riverside:  In a back-and-forth affair the visiting league leaders equalized twice, but in the end had to settle for a single point, dropping the shootout 4-3. Jamie Conner fed Taylor Yaws for the go-ahead goal for the Rams 16 minutes in, but Nicole Wetherall evened things back up for the Cardinals just two minutes later. Ava West restored the lead via Callie Pangerl at the half-hour mark and held onto the advantage for quite a while before Jaxyn Farmen fed Jayda Noble to put things level again.

Freeman 2-3 OT Lakeside:  The Eagles posted a two goal advantage in the first half with Alyssa Figy finding Kayleigh Talbott for the opener in the 20th and scoring the second on a ball from Hannah Mitchell eight minutes later. The second half, though, saw a Scotties comeback with Claire Love scoring four minutes after the break and Lindsay Balkenbush just after the hour mark to tie things up. The game remained even the rest of the way and nearly went to a shootout before Figy found Lexi Torok for the overtime game-winner in the 89th.

Colville 3-2 Newport:  In a back-and-forth contest, the winless Grizzlies made things difficult for the visiting Indians. The hosts took the lead through Lewis in the 25th minute, but Kirsten Stickney answered two minutes before the break to even things up. Bronkhurst put the Grizzlies back in front in the 57th with Strickland answering in the 66th for Colville and Keren Torres netting the winner in the 79th for the dramatic finish.
