Both sides were 7-0-0 going into the first-place showdown at Spokane Falls Stadium Saturday evening, but in the end the CC Spokane women and North Idaho College had to settle with a 1-1 draw. Later in the evening in the second half of the doubleheader, a goal in each half from Jonny Cortez gave division-leading Spokane a 2-0 victory.
WOMEN ##############
North Idaho 1 :: 1 Spokane
The two division powers collided and Spokane controlled the opening half of play. After a few early chances for the Bigfoot Anisha Nicholson (Post Falls, ID) delivered a cross from the left side that Maddy Boyd (Spokane, WA) knocked home her eighth in the division for the lead just five minutes into the contest. Spokane continued to put the Cardinal goal under pressure throughout, but were unable to find a second before the break.
NIC came out in the second half and had quite a few periods of control and earned an equalizer in the 54th minute via Sterling Healy (Sandpoint, ID), her fifth goal in divisional play. The two sides continued to fight for a winner but had to settle for the tie filled with disappointment, but some relief for a Bigfoot side that came in with a short bench and lost another player player to injury during the contest.
Wenatchee Valley 2 :: 1 Treasure Valley
The Knights went in front 18 minutes into the contest on Brenna Whitney's (Warden, WA) third goal in divisional play. The one goal margin stood well into the second half when WVC added what proved to be an important insurance goal in the 75th minute from True Downey (Okanogan, WA). Five minutes later Chelsea Entrambasaguas fed Lindsey Williams (Twin Falls, ID) to make things interesting, but the Chukars were unable to complete the rally at home.
Walla Walla 11 :: 1 Yakima Valley
In a the kind of blowout that typically has only been seen leveled on Blue Mountain, the Warriors rolled to an easy win in Yakima with Haley Berryman (Ephrata, WA) scoring three of the team's seven first half goals before going on to add two more in the second half. Six different players accounted for the other five goals with Jessica Garcia (Eltopia, WA), Daisy Nateras (Walla Walla, WA), Sadie Blaisdell and Brittany Hanson (La Grande, OR) netting in the first half and Kylee Platt and Erin Leseberg (Kennewick, WA) getting tallies in the second.
