College Notebook 10.26.18 - Wendlandt Leads Baylor to Big 12 Title; Cougs Down Cal

Some early midweek action proved big for Division I teams and players. Washington State ended a losing skid with a victory over Cal, Santa Clara grabbed an overtime win thanks to a pair of area players to keep pace atop the WCC at 6-1-0 with BYU, and - biggest of all - Camryn Wendlandt (Coeur d'Alene, ID) led Baylor to the Big 12 Championship.

Wendlandt scored her ninth goal of the season - fifth game-winner in nine league games - to give 10th-ranked Baylor its first regular season Big 12 championship since 1998, though it won the conference tournament a year ago and in 2012.

Here's a recap of the action so far this week...

## Women's Scores & Notes ##

Pac-12, Mountain West & West Coast Conferences

PAC-12 - California 2-4 Washington State :: The Bears grabbed the initial lead 13 minutes in but Morgan Weaver's shot off the crossbar rebounded to Maddy Haro two minutes later for the equalizer. The Cougars would take the lead in the 37th courtesy of Alysha Overland (Moses Lake, WA / CC Spokane), who intercepted the ball from a defender and quickly found Weaver for the finish. Cal would tie it back up in the 43rd but the Cougs wasted no time in the second half, going back in front on a Haro free kick that Hanna Goff settled and slipped to Sydney Pulver. The assist would make set the program single-season record at 12. Weaver would set up one more in the 82nd for some insurance, finding Brianna Alger to snap their five-game losing streak in advance of their showdown with the nation's top-ranked side Stanford Sunday.

WCC - Santa Clara 2-1 (OT) San Diego :: Maria Sanchez (American Falls, ID) set up the go-ahead goal just 26 seconds into the match for the Broncos, who looked headed to the win when the hosts scored with 89 seconds remaining. But in overtime the Broncos scored even quicker with Kelcie Hedge (Post Falls, ID) setting up the winner 11 seconds in.
