Fortune favored North Idaho College Saturday afternoon as a second half red card enabled them to snare a key 2-0 home win against Yakima Valley, learning later that a late goal from Wenatchee Valley resulted in a 1-1 draw at former co-leader Spokane to give the Cardinals sole possession of first. Walla Walla also moved past Spokane by a point thanks to their surprisingly narrow 1-0 win against Treasure Valley.
For the second consecutive contest for the Sasquatch opposition it was a historic result, this time being what is believed to be* the first point for the Knights against Spokane dating back through 2003 according to the NWAC's online archives [data missing from 2008 when WVC was 5-12-3 and CCS 4-13-3]. They only came within a goal on four occasions - earlier this year, the second meeting last season and once each in 2006 and 2003.
The Bigfoot men, meanwhile, avenged one of their two East losses on the season, mirroring their 2-0 road loss in Wenatchee with a 2-0 win against the Knights. The two went into the night tied for second, but the Knights' loss also allowed one-loss Columbia Basin to jump into the third spot.
WOMEN
Yakima Valley 0-2 North Idaho :: In a close contest, a red card to Harley Hendry (Hauser, ID) in the 70th minute may have played a key role in the result as the stalemate between the two went into the final 10 minutes before Autumn Stewart (Spokane, WA) broke the deadlock in the 82nd. Zoe Lee (Ammon, ID) struck three minutes later to add some insurance and Kaysha Bailey (Lewiston, ID) made five stops for the clean sheet.
Wenatchee Valley 1-1 Spokane :: Despite a 21-5 advantage in shots, the scoring woes continued for the Bigfoot. Kalle Crouch (Spokane, WA) scored their lone goal on a blistering strike from outside the box in the 22nd minute to put them in front. Despite having the vast advantage in play, WVC would get a bit of possession at times in the offensive end to create some anxious moments, but in the end it was a counter off a midfield turnover that saw Yalina Vargas (Brewster, WA) make a brief run to goal before stabbing a swerving shot that slipped by Micky Ramirez for the equalizer in the 82nd minute. Trisha Priest (Omak, WA) made 13 saves for the Knights to keep them in the contest.
Treasure Valley 0-1 Walla Walla :: The Warriors squeaked out a victory at home against the Chukars by the narrowest of margins despite outshooting them 16-1. Hannah Simpson (Star, ID) did well to deny them with eight saves in the game, keeping them off the board for over an hour before Klarissa Barajas (Kennewick, WA) found Taylen Wohl in the 61st. Seven minutes later, though, the goal scorer was sent off for receiving two yellows in the span of three minutes. Danielle Dowd (Rathdrum, ID) only needed one save in the shutout.
Columbia Basin 2-0 Blue Mountain :: The Hawks scored twice early with Elena Mendoza (Othello, WA) scoring eight minutes in and Mayra Ortez (Umatilla, OR) 11 minutes later. Daisy Torres (Pasco, WA) had 12 saves for the Timberwolves as CBC outshot them 15-2 in the contest. Caitlyn Hossfeld (Spokane, WA) was never tested.
Notes: Grace Hipke (Richland, WA) scored the fifth and ninth goals for Peninsula in a 10-0 win against Shoreline... Erikah Ledesma (Yakima, WA) led Edmonds to a 2-1 win at Everett with two saves.

MEN
Treasure Valley 0-1 Walla Walla :: Just as the ladies had done in the prior game, the Warriors scored the lone, deciding goal in the 61st minute with Andres Arroyo (Pasco, WA) finishing off of a ball from Edwin Romero (Walla Walla, WA). Alex Grimaldo (Caldwell, ID) made four saves for the shutout.
Columbia Basin 3-1 Blue Mountain :: The Timberwolves held the initial lead courtesy of a goal from Trystin Quintero in the 20th minute but the Hawks would not only even it up, but go into the break in front on a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the half. Gonzolo Frausto (Sunnyside, WA) scored the equalizer in the 40th and two minutes later found Oscar Cortez (Pasco, WA) for the winner. Cortez would cap the game with a tally in the final moments.
Wenatchee Valley 0-2 Spokane :: In a back-and-forth affair that saw the better of the chances coming from the Spokane, the Sasquatch would finally break through on a free kick from near the right touch line in the 42nd minute. Jared Mehaffey served a well-paced ball that center back Hunter VanCleave (Missoula, MT) rose and flicked past the keeper. Three minutes later Christian Bahena received a ball on the left side from out of the corner and proceeded to drive well into the box diagonally to the end line, serving the ball across the front of the six for the one-time finish from Diego Esquivel (Post Falls, ID). Caleb Garbuio would finish with seven saves for the shutout.
Notes: Manny Lopez (Wenatchee, WA) set up the opening goal for Peninsula in a 5-1 win against Shoreline... Colin Houser (Boise, ID) made nine saves for Edmonds in a 1-0 shutout win at Everett... Paul Cuevas (Yakima, WA) set up the first goal for Skagit Valley while already trailing by four in a 5-2 loss to Whatcom.
