Saturday was a very eventful afternoon in playoff soccer, particularly in the 3A and 4A district tournaments for the Greater Spokane League and Mid-Columbia Conference as the Shadle Park Highlanders upset top GSL seed Mt Spokane 1-0 and University slipped past top MCC seed Richland in a wild seven-round shootout to advance to the next round of play.
## 4A / 3A PLAYOFFS ##
3A - North Central 0-1 Kamiakin :: A corner kick proved to be the difference in a contest that saw the MCC champion Braves with the better of play in the first half before things evened out in the second. In the 26th minute Emma Johnson delivered a pass off of the set piece to Brielle Schneider up the touch line. Schneider took a touch to drive toward the area and unleashed a shot from about 21 yards that slipped inside the near post.

3A - Shadle Park 1-0 Mt Spokane :: With her back to goal, Paige Klein managed to collect a loose ball in a bit of a scrum just outside the box on the left side in a situation that did not look threatening. When she turned, however, she saw just enough of a window to fire from about 24 yards, finding the far side netting to put the Highlanders up. Shadle continued to find some attacking momentum and a breakaway opportunity midway through the period that was halted by a foul resulted in a first yellow to Gracyn Ulias, who in the 31st would be sent off for a second yellow when she flew into a header challenge with her forearm raised that resulted in a player advantage the rest of the way for Shadle Park, who lost Klein for the rest of the contest from the collision. The Wildcats, though, had some chances in the game, none better than a penalty opportunity early in the second half, but freshman keeper Katelyn Pomerinke made a nice save to keep the hosts off the board.

4A - Mead 2-3 (OT) Chiawana :: In a back-and-forth affair the Riverhawks held the initial lead five minutes in through Ruthie Edrington, but Margo Schoesler found Olivia DeShazo 12 minutes later and four minutes into the second half the two combined to set up Megan Cardenas for the go-ahead goal. Edrington, though, evened things up 10 minutes later for the hosts. The two sides were deadlocked from there and nearly went to a shootout to decide matters, but with less than two minutes remaining in overtime Macey Morales delivered a through ball to Elsa Young, who battled a defender to keep the ball before unleashing a shot inside the right post for the win.

@ChiawanaSoccer came back to tie things up with Mead in the second half, but they'd need extra time to get the win. Playing this Elsa Young Golden Goal on repeat 👇👇👇 #GoldenHour #WalkoffsArentJustForBaseball #TCPreps pic.twitter.com/8O47A2IiEc— SWX Overtime (@SWX_Overtime) October 28, 2018
4A - Walla Walla 1-4 Central Valley :: Playing at Gonzaga Prep in a last-minute move due to football destroying their field, it suited the Bears just fine in what proved to be the Kailyn LaBrosse show. She scored three minutes in and set up Madison Whitney in the 24th before scoring again with two minutes left in the half. Abby Lewis would add a fourth before Katie Hassler spoiled the shutout.

4A - Hanford 0-3 Gonzaga Prep :: In an evenly played affair a pair of corners from the Bullpups gave them control of the contest. Olivia Lauffer found the head of Kennedy Seibold inside the six for the first seven minutes before the break and Erin Ewers put away the second on a loose ball from a corner that dropped down in the middle of the box off a header attempt from Seibold. A loose ball in the box was finished by Campbell Seibold eight minutes from time to seal the victory up.

4A - University 2-1 (SO) Richland :: The two sides were deadlocked in a physical affair that saw numerous yellow cards and the exit of Titans defender Emma Knudson with a concussion. The Bombers broke through for the opener in the second half through Camryn Dezember eight minutes into the period. Lauren Chester would be taken down on a breakaway midway through the half, allowing Gracen Crosby to tie it up on the ensuing penalty. The two would remain even the rest of the way, sending the contest to a shootout that proved to be a crazy back-and-forth affair that went seven rounds.
After the Titans converted the opening shot Josie Krum dropped to her left and denied the hosts' opening shot with her legs for the early advantage, but things would sway the other direction over the next three rounds. A shot off the bar from the Titans in the next attempt allowed Richland to even it up and after both converted in the third round a shot sent over by University allowed the Bombers to take the lead. University scored in the fifth round and with the potentially deciding attempt, Richland keeper Sydnee Hay sent her shot high and wide to the right to send matters to sudden death rounds. Both converted in the sixth with University scoring what proved to be the winner in the seventh with Richland's following attempt going wide left. "It was a great win for us," said head coach Kara Sharpe. "Richland is a solid team and to get a win on the road at such a hostile environment shows a lot about the character and grit of the players I have. We’re looking forward to playing Prep on Tuesday night."
