HS Daily - 9.12.17: Deer Park outlasts Colville as NEA opens play

Mondays are usually very quiet, but air quality postponements have pushed plenty of matches around. With that, yesterday became Opening Day for the Northeast A League. Deer Park and Colville played a wild contest that finished 4-3 and Makayla Geiger had a monster Monday with five goals for Medical Lake.

Round-up of the action for September 11

Northeast A League

Deer Park 4-3 Colville
In a thrilling back-and-forth affair, both teams led the match at one point. Lily Pierce scored the opening goal in the 20th on a ball from Emmy Moore, but Torres evened things up six minutes later for the hosts via Kirsten Stickney. Stickney put Colville in front three minutes into the second half but the Stags scored the next two to reclaim the lead thanks to Hannah Hodgson and Carson Gracie-Allen strikes. Peterson leveled things back up again in the 67th, but Moore answered two minutes later with what held as the game-winner.

Newport 1-5 Medical Lake
Makayla Geiger torched the visitors for all five goals on the night. Her first came 20 minutes into the match with Chloe Clark scoring for Newport eight minutes later. She quickly answered, though, with her second two minutes later. She added three in the second half with Jaxyn Farmen setting up two of them.

Lakeside 2-0 Riverside
Jordyn Newman scored the first goal via Alyssa Figy and Lizzie Torok added some insurance on a ball from Mykayla Cummings.

Non-League Matches

Ferris 4-2 Lewiston
Yacine Bitibale scored three for the Saxons across the border. She put them on the board in the fourth via Jill Calkins, who doubled the lead in the 28th. The assist was from Lexie Caniglia, who also fed Bitibale for the third in the 34th. Lewiston struck in the 44th and 62nd to pull within one, but Bitibale completed her hat-trick a minute later.

Coeur d'Alene 1-4 Gonzaga Prep
Grace Cooper scored five minutes in for the Bullpups with the visitors answering in the 14th. Chelsea Le restored the GP lead in the 34 and Ryan Decker pushed the lead to two a minute before intermission. Cooper netted her second of the game a minute into the second half.

Lewis & Clark 1-1 Mt Spokane
Jackie Brown broke the stalemate six minutes into the second half with the Wildcats answering in the 61st with a goal from Liv Sargent set up by Emily Williams.
