HS Daily - 9.13.17: Goals, goals and more goals

Defense is still a hard item to come by in the Mid-Columbia Conference. The second round of action in the league saw 27 goals produced in four games Tuesday evening. Things were nearly the same in the Great Northern League and Northeast A League where 23 goals were tallied in five combined league games.

Round-up of the action for September 12

Mid-Columbia Conference

Walla Walla 3-2 Chiawana
In a back-and-forth affair, the Blue Devils grabbed a huge victory on the road against the Riverhawks, who got on the board just a minute into the match via Ruthie Edrington. Walla Walla grabbed the lead with a pair of goals in a three-minute span with Lorena Ramirez and Emoree Lash scoring in the 26th and 29th. Macey Morales tied things back up three minutes before intermission, but Abigail Escalante struck for the Blue Devils four minutes on the other side of the break for what stood as the winner.

Richland 4-2 Southridge
The Bombers grabbed a three-goal lead on tallies from Ashley Tonthat, McKenna Martinez and Baylee Shewchuk. Grace Griffiths and Maleah Hill scored for the Suns to make it interesting, but Annabel Lin also scored to give the visitors some insurance.

Pasco 0-4 Hanford
Dani Mendoza put the hosts on the board just two minutes in and then Marinn Nelson scored back-to-back goals a minute apart to push the lead to three in the 11th minute. Fany Cassio added a goal in the second half. Gabby Turner recorded the shutout.

Kamiakin 11-1 Kennewick
Izzy Conover scored in the third and sixth minutes before Kennewick got on the board via Zoraida Briones. It was all Braves after that, though. Maddie Morgan scored back-to-back as she and Conover went on to finish with hat-tricks. Paige Savage, Kaeri Ward, Britney Donais, Aaliyah Valladares and Riley Clark also scored in the rout.

Great Northern League

Cheney 1-3 Clarkston
Makenzie Packwood powered the Bantams to the win with a goal and two assists. She set up Maddie Hoffman in the fifth and tallied herself moments before the break. A minute into the second half she found Lauren Johnson. Makenna Benson scored for Cheney in the 55th, but that was all the Blackhawks could muster.

East Valley 3-0 Pullman
After a scoreless first half Chloe Gellhaus, Sydney Moore and Autumn Stewart tallied to propel the Knights to the win. Paige Tomcho and Lillie Thompson combined for the shutout.

Northeast A League

Freeman 2-1 Lakeside
Macy Luhr scored in the fifth and 12th minutes for a two-goal advantage. Maddie Hall tallied for the Eagles seven minutes into the second half, but the rally attempt fell short.

Colville 6-4 Newport
In a wild back-and-forth match Keren Torres scored two goals in the span of a minute for a two-goal lead in the 28th. Stephanie Huang answered for for Newport as they scored two in three minutes to pull even, setting up Jocelyn Endicot in the 34th and scoring herself in the 36th. Torres, though, reached the hat-trick mark just before the half to put Colville back in front. She added a fourth in the second half and Huang notched a second to remain with one, but the two sides continued to exchange goals to the finish with Kirsten Stickney scoring for Colville and Emily Bronkhorst for the hosts.

Lauren Chester had quite an evening. She set up five of the eight goals for the Titans before getting one of her own. It began three minutes in on a Kelsey Crosby goal and she set the first of two consecutive from Berg four minutes later. Frankie Schade put the visitors on the board in the 27th to close out the scoring for the half. Chester then found Crosby, Kora George and Tessa Thornton before tallying in the 64th. Thornton would add one more.

Shadle Park 4-3 Deer Park
The Highlanders did not lead until the final goal with two minutes left on the clock. Jesse Thomas scored the Stags opener three minute in, and after Kayla Clark evened things up she set up Hannah Hodgson to reclaim the lead. Paige Klein, though, tied it back up moments before the half. Emmy Moore, who set up the opener, put the hosts ahead again in the 47th, but Clark tied it up with her second in the 6th and Olivia Wicks struck for the winner in the 78th for Shadle.
