NWAC East Tonight 9.16.17: Yakima Valley earns 1-1 draw with Spokane

In a pair of tight contests on the women's side of the division, Yakima Valley College earned an unexpected 1-1 draw at home against CC Spokane Saturday and Columbia Basin snared an extremely late 1-0 victory over visiting Treasure Valley.

Spokane 1-1 Yakima Valley
In the most surprising result of the season thus far, the Yaks found a late goal after trailing since Sabrina Castaneda's (Nampa, ID) goal for the Bigfoot in the third minute. Spokane native Katie Balauro delivered the stunner in the 77th, finishing a ball from Kelsey Smith, who went on a breakaway before sending it back post. Madison Smith and Addy Eckstrom (Yakima, WA) made a combined nine saves as Spokane outshot the hosts 15-6 in the match.

Treasure Valley 0-1 Columbia Basin
The match was quite the stalemate with the match going more than 87 minutes before Elena Mendoza (Othello, WA) scored the decisive goal on a ball from Kaile Kauanui in the 88th for the Hawks. Jenelle Garza (Othello, WA) made eight saves for the hosts while the Chukars saw Lupita Villavicencio (Glenns Ferry, ID) make five before the winner.

North Idaho 4-1 Wenatchee Valley
Marisol Guerrero set up a pair of goals for the Cardinals in the first half by Katey Knaack (Coeur d'Alene, ID) and Aunika Capps (Naches, WA). In the second half Linnea Pretzer (Idaho Falls, ID) put the match out of reach with goals in the 63rd and 71st, which Guerrero tallied a third assist on. Brenna Whitney (Warden, WA) spoiled the shutout for the Knights.

Blue Mountain 0-14 Walla Walla
Getting their stat boosts today were: Madison Brownell (2 goals, 1 assist / Selah, WA), Hailey Hill (2g, 1a / Boise, ID), Tate Kautzky (2g, 1a / Richland, WA), Emily Thornton (1g, 1a / Benton City, WA), Dominique Velazquez (1g, 3a / Othello, WA), Hannah Thompson (1g, 1a / Richland, WA) and goalkeeper Paige Kubista (1g, 1a / Nampa, ID), who played a bit in the field after a half in goal. Also scoring were Sally Culig (Boise, ID), Sophia Garrison (Wenatchee, WA) and Madison Hemenway (Richland, WA).

INW Players Elsewhere:  Madelene Parton (Leavenworth, WA) scored the final goal for Peninsula in a 7-0 win against Skagit Valley.

Treasure Valley 1-3 Columbia Basin
After a scoreless first half the Chukars grabbed the initial lead on the road when Tristen Penrod scored on a ball from Jesus Lechuga (Caldwell, ID) in the 51st. The answered with three goals over the next 14 minutes. Uriel Mendoza (Prosser, WA) fed Israel Gonzalez (Grandview, WA) for the equalizer in the 55th before scoring himself in the 61st. Gonzalez picked up a second courtesy of Johnathan Mata (Grandview, WA)  in the 65th.

North Idaho 4-1 Wenatchee Valley 
Conner Kinnune (Newman Lake, WA) gave the Cardinals the lead at the break with a goal in the 38th, but the Knights scored five minutes into the second half to even things up when Omar Mendoza (Wenatchee, WA) hit Lenin Guzman (Connell, WA). Irvin Angula (Caldwell, ID) went on a flurry midway through the half to give the visitors the win. He scored two in the span of less than three minutes. The first came in the 74th with Oscar Padilla (Weiser, ID) setting up the second in the 77th. He tacked on one more to put things out of reach.

Blue Mountain 1-9 Walla Walla
Miguel Rodriguez (Milton-Freewater, OR) scored in the opening minute of play, but the visitors answered six minutes later via Isaac Munoz-Ortega (Hermiston, OR). Things remained even for another half-hour before Juan Martinez (Milton-Freewater, OR) put the Warriors back in front. Freddy Rodriguez (Hermiston, OR) scored three minutes before intermission and a minute after to grab full control of the match. Cristian Torres (Milton-Freewater, OR) and Alberto Anguiano (Kennewick, WA) pushed the lead to four within five minutes of the break, and Miguel Rodriguez finished off the game with the next two goals and an assist on Missael Lopez's (Tieten, WA) to close it out.

INW Players Elsewhere:  Miguel Martin (Terrebonne, OR) made 11 saves for Clark as they blanked Chemeketa 3-0 on the road... Alain Murhula (Boise, ID) set up the opening goal and scored Whatcom's third as they rolled to a 3-1 win at Everett.
