Redlands 1-0 Chapman :: Midfielder Alexa Glick (Boise, ID) scored the deciding goal in the contest in the 24th minute.
Wednesday, September 19
Northwest Conference - Whitman 1-3 Whitworth :: The Pirates grabbed an early lead when Kelly Wucherer sent a ball beyond the back line that Arielle Van Peursem ran onto and then beat the keeper to put them on the board in the 11th minute. Whitworth controlled the contest and later put it away with a pair of goals just after the hour mark with Coby Yoshimura tallying in the 61st on a rebound and again two minutes later when a cross from Hanna Rae Miller was poked in by a defender for an own goal. Sofia Ellington (Bend, OR) spoiled the shutout in the 67th.
Kicking Off This Week
The Pac-12 women kick off league play on Friday. Among the opening games is Washington State's trip to UCLA in a Top 25 showdown as the Cougars are 14 and the Bruins 8 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Check out the Pac-12 Preseason Poll [+]
The Big Sky slate begins on Friday with Eastern Washington, Idaho and Idaho State all at home for their openers. The trio also host conference matches on Sunday along with Montana, which celebrates its 25th season. Check out the Big Sky Preseason Poll [+]
Boise State and the Mountain West Conference opens up league play Friday. The Broncos play host to Nevada and then quickly hit the road for a game at UNLV on Sunday. Check out the MWC Preseason Poll [+]
Honors
Montana's Taryn Miller has been named one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer, which recognizes final-year student-athletes who have had notable achievements in the areas of competition, classroom, character and community. CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The list of 30 candidates -- only a dozen of which come from schools west of the Mississippi, none outside of Miller from the Big Sky Conference -- will be narrowed down to 10 finalists next month for nationwide voting by media, coaches and fans.

A week after the ladies kicked off, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men begin play on Thursday. MSU Billings are on the road north of the border at Simon Fraser with a Sunday match-up at Western Washington. Meanwhile Northwest Nazarene plays host to Seattle Pacific on Thursday.
