HS UPDATE 9.14.18: Suns Stun Chiawana; Deer Park Tops Lakeside

Thursday the 13th proved to be a frightful evening for the Chiawana Riverhawks, who were running rampant through the MCC. The 1-2 Southridge Suns grabbed an early lead and held on to eventually claim a shootout victory over the previously unbeaten side.

Meanwhile, much further north in Deer Park the Lady Stags won the first meeting between any of the NEA's trio of unbeatens, breaking open the scoring in the second half en route to a decisive 3-0 victory over Lakeside.

##  Mid-Columbia Conference  ##

Chiawana 2-3 (SO) Southridge :: Kassiadi Suitonu tallied a goal and assist for the Suns in a surprising start against the powerhouse Riverhawks. Chiawana, though, clawed back in it with goals in the second half and the two sides continued to exchange opportunities through overtime before having to settle things from the spot.

"The squad showed tremendous resiliency tonight. After our 5-0 loss to Kamaikin, on Tuesday, this result helps bolster our confidence as we enter the heart of the MCC regular season," said Southridge head coach Brian Gochoel.

A few minutes later, however, starting keeper Sophia Schonder, who was in the midst of a great game with eight saves, left the match with injury. The Bombers took advantage quickly with a goal about a minute from the break and then went on to tally the next three in the second half to grab control of the contest before Ramirez got a second with five minutes left. The engine behind the Richland blitz was again sophomore McKenna Martinez. She scored the first two and set up the third before netting the third and fourth goals as well. Natalie Razuaskus tallied the other goal and assisted on the last.
