Despite their recent surge in success over the past few years, one thing the Eagles were unable to fully reverse the trend on was their history with Boise State as the Broncos used a 2-0 victory Friday to push their all-time record against EWU to 11-1-1.
Eastern had eliminated the goose egg on their last encounter, a 3-1 result that took place well back in 2012. The Broncos took command early with McKenna Kynett and Raimee Sherle (Meridian, ID) running rampant up top. Ten minutes in Kynett was allowed to run free, cutting outside the box on the left side and running along the top edge of the area rather freely until she decided to fire on target for the opener.
From there both sides had a few looks at goal, but the Broncos limited the quality of Eastern's looks and Kelsee Winston (Pasco, WA) took care of the few chances the visitors had, including one in the final minutes of the half in which she dropped on the ball just as the attacker arrived in a crunching collision.
Sherle would get on the board nine minutes into the second half, converting a penalty after she was fouled in the box.
As the game neared conclusion Winston made a pair of fantastic point-blank saves against on attempts from Kynett and Ashleigh Harrison with under two minutes left in what was the Broncos' last full push to add to the score before taking the air out of the ball to lock up the result and the team's best start (3-1-0) since 2008.
The result also snapped Eastern's 12-game home unbeaten run.
Tara Fisher needed just three stops for Boise State in the shutout as most of chances for the Eagles were off the mark.
Absolutely beautiful strike here from Kynett to put the Broncos up 1-0! Thanks to @EWUSoccer for the clip. #BleedBlue pic.twitter.com/EPubisEWgV— Boise State Soccer (@BroncoSportsSOC) August 31, 2018
Calm and under control as always, Sherle goes right post and tucks it away for the 2-0 Bronco lead. #BleedBlue pic.twitter.com/jHnafTakl3— Boise State Soccer (@BroncoSportsSOC) September 1, 2018
