College Notebook 9.21.18: Nighthawks Men Defeat SPU in GNAC Opener

Quick Round-Up of Thursday's games and news, which included the opening night of league play for the GNAC men.

## Men's Scores & Notes ##

Great Northwest Athletic Conference

Seattle Pacific 0-2 Northwest Nazarene :: A late goal in each half gave the Nighthawks the league-opening victory over an SPU side that swept NNU last year and was picked to finish second. Rafael Junqueira scored both, tallying with a header off a free kick with 13 seconds remaining in the first half and the second with seven minutes left in the second half on a ball dished to him from Jake Levine (Spokane, WA), who collected a blocked shot for the second opportunity.

MSU Billings 0-4 Simon Fraser :: The third-ranked Clan were just too much for the Yellowjackets, scoring three times in the opening 19 minutes as they rolled to the win with just three shots allowed.

Western Washington 1-3 Saint Martin's :: Sebastian Navarro (Yakima, WA) helped set up the second goal on a free kick, which proved to be the winner, and delivered the assist on the final tally.

Around the Region

Gonzaga 2-1 Sacramento State :: Jake Kempf fired a shot over the keeper's reach from the corner of box to break the stalemate just over two minutes into the second half. The Hornets answered in the 71st, but Demitrius Kigeya drove through the box to score the winner in the 86th. The hosts outshot GU 13-10 in the game, but Ben Willis finished with no saves as their lone goal was the only one on target.

## Women's Scores & Notes ##

Concordia 1-0 Northwest Nazarene :: Despite going toe-to-toe with the 10th ranked Cavaliers, the Nighthawks fell 1-0 behind a 26th minute goal. Chloe Schultz (Spokane, WA) made five saves to help keep NNU in the match.

MSU Billings 0-1 Western Oregon :: The Yellowjackets defense did well to limit the Wolves chances on goal, allowing just four shots on frame as they were outshot 12-6. Unfortunately, the final shot of the game decided the outcome as the hosts broke the stalemate with 39 seconds remaining.

Seattle Pacific 4-0 Saint Martin's :: Claire Neder (Spokane, WA) split a pair of defenders to score the third goal with six minutes remaining and Sierra Smith (Boise, ID) rounded things up in the 87th with the final goal.

Around the Nation
