NWAC East Tonight 9.8.18: Walla Walla Rallies for Two Wins

Central Washington was the location of three dramatic contests. Yakima Valley scored late for a draw at Columbia Basin and both Walla Walla sides rallied for victories in the second half, including a wild finish in the men's match that featured two goals in stoppage time.

WOMEN

Wenatchee Valley 1-2 Walla Walla :: Erin Aarnold Wenatchee, WA) gave the Knights the lead on the road when she converted a penalty in the 26th minute, but the Warriors rallied for the victory in the second half. Haley Wammock (Yakima, WA) tallied the equalizer in the 68th and Hailey Hill (Boise, ID) hit for the winner in the 74th minute.

Yakima Valley 1-1 Columbia Basin :: The Hawks took an early lead just nine minutes in when Mikayla Hunter (Kennewick, WA) connected with Elena Mendoza (Othello, WA). The hosts held that advantage in a tight affair. CBC thought they were on the way to a victory when the Yaks snatched the draw in the final minute of regulation on a Harley Hendry (Hauser, ID) goal set up by Natalie Wright.

Blue Mountain 1-10 North Idaho :: Ellory Ferris (Ellensburg, WA) scored the first two in the 12th and 24th with Melissa Decker (Meridian, ID) making it a three goal half in the 37th. Things really unravelled in the second half after Sydney Moore (Newman Lake, WA) struck with Ferris finishing her hat-trick before Linnea Pretzer (Idaho Falls, ID) scored three consecutive for one of her own. Kiana Corpuz put the Timberwolves on the board in the 75th before Zoe Lee (Ammon, ID) scored twice.

Treasure Valley 0-4 Spokane :: Megan Wilkinson (Pasco, WA) scored the opener 15 minutes in and Gaby Kennedy (Spokane, WA) converted a penalty in the 22nd to push the advantage to two. Though they dominated the contest to the point that Micky Ramirez only touched the ball as the Bigfoot switched the point of attack scoring was not coming easy as a high percentage of shots were either at Lupita Patlan (Hailey, ID) or the keeper made a nice effort for a save. A pair of second half goals in a two minute span rounded out the scoring with Shannon Frucci (Spokane, WA) tallying in the 69th and Kalle Crouch (Spokane, WA) in the 71st.

Notes: Grace Hipke (Richland, WA) scored the fifth goal to open the scoring in the second half for Peninsula in an 8-0 win against Shoreline... Six minutes after the opening tally Bailey Johnson (Idaho Falls, ID) gave Lane some insurance in a 2-0 win against Rogue.

MEN

Wenatchee Valley 2-3 Walla Walla :: It was a back-and-forth affair with an absolutely thrilling finish that saw the Warriors score twice in stoppage time. Kevin Meraz-Rodriguez (Pasco, WA) had given them the lead nine minutes in, but Johan Espinoza (Wenatchee, WA) scored in the 18th and 50th minutes to put the Knights in front. They looked headed to the win when Johan Martinez (Sunnyside, WA) struck for the equalizer a minute into stoppage. Freddy Rodriguez (Hermiston, OR) then netted the stunning winner six minutes deep into stoppage.

Treasure Valley 0-3 Spokane :: Despite controlling the contest, the Bigfoot would not break through on the scoreboard until Nicholas Frost tallied in the 39th minute. In the second half, though, they wasted no time with Brennan Murphy (Spokane, WA) doubling the advantage just over two minutes into play. The final goal came on a recycled opportunity that started in the right corner and was finished by Diego Esquivel (Post Falls, ID) after Jared Mehaffey (Spokane, WA) had drawn away the defender. Caleb Garbuio was not called upon to make a save in the match as the defense kept the Chukars from getting a look on goal.

Blue Mountain 0-2 North Idaho :: The two sides were locked in a stalemate until Zach Bowsky (Spokane, WA) put away a rebound opportunity in the 58th minute for the Cardinals. The Timberwolves would go down a man in the 76th when Isaac Munoz-Ortega (Hermiston, OR) received his second yellow in three minutes, but it was a free kick that provided NIC with the insurance goal via Josh Greer (Billings, MT) five minutes later. Isaiah Damschen (Spokane, WA) recorded the shutout with seven saves.

Notes: Paul Cuevas (Yakima, WA) scored the final goal of the contest via Rafael Cuevas (Yakima, WA) for Skagit Valley in a 3-2 loss against Whatcom.
